If Miami can be said to still have a “crunchy” side left, it would have to be in the community of Coconut Grove, where consumerism hasn’t entirely crowded out pockets of a once-thriving counterculture such as this Buddhist center run by Taiwan-born Master Chufei Tsai, an easy stroll from all the Grove’s downtown. Seekers of spiritual enlightenment and/or a lodging steal with some singular personality will find the tiny bed-and-breakfast here a jewel in the lotus. Amid a secluded, tranquil setting accented by classic Eastern touches such as a stupa, Tibetan prayer wheel, and koi pond are four simple but elegant rooms with private baths and one shared studio space with a soaring ceiling and lots of natural light. It may not literally be nirvana, but it is pretty nifty.
